Nonspecific airway hyperresponsiveness in HIV disease.

چکیده
ence with Legionella cavitary pneumonia is not yet extensive enough to allow for firm recommendations regarding either the nature or duration of therapy. Furthermore, our experience raises the question of need for long-term suppressive therapy for Legionella in AIDS patients, similar to that given for other multiple intracellular infections, such as toxoplasmosis and cytomegalovirus. The experience of Johnson and Huseby would be a useful addition to the accumulated anecdotal information on treatment of this entity.

متن کاملA Brief History of Airway Smooth Muscle's Role in Airway Hyperresponsiveness
A link between airway smooth muscle (ASM) and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) in asthma was first postulated in the midnineteenth century, and the suspected link has garnered ever increasing interest over the years. AHR is characterized by excessive narrowing of airways in response to nonspecific stimuli, and it is the ASM that drives this narrowing. The stimuli that can be used to demonstrate...
متن کاملOzone-induced modulation of airway hyperresponsiveness in guinea pigs.
Although acute exposure to ozone (03*) has been shown to influence the severity and prevalence of airway hyperresponsiveness, information has been lacking on effects due to long-term exposure at relatively low exposure concentrations. The goals of this study were to determine whether long-term repeated ozone exposures could induce nonspecific hyperresponsiveness in normal, nonatopic (nonsensiti...
متن کاملPrognosis of occupational asthma.
Several studies on the prognosis of occupational asthma have shown that a significant proportion of patients continue to experience asthmatic symptoms and nonspecific bronchial hyperresponsiveness after cessation of work. The determinants of this unfavourable prognosis of asthma are: long duration of exposure before the onset of asthma; long duration of symptoms before diagnosis; baseline airwa...
متن کاملTanshinone IIA attenuates ovalbumin-induced airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness in a murine model of asthma
Objective(s): Tanshinone IIA (T. IIA), one of the most pharmacologically active components extracted from Salviae miltiorrhiza, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant features. The aim of the present study is to investigate the benefit of T. IIA on asthma using a murine model of asthma induced by ovalbumin (OVA). Materials and Methods: Male BALB/c mice were used in the present study. The mice we...
